WEEK 7
In this class, our focus shifted to the nuanced concept of weight shifts in animation. The assignment at hand tasked us with crafting a straightforward walking animation in blocking, setting the stage for the subsequent week’s exploration. George, our instructor, played a pivotal role in this process by providing valuable feedback on the incorporation of side-to-side weight shifts and the integration of three dynamic poses.
The essence of George’s guidance revolved around refining our grasp of weight distribution and the art of exaggeration in animation. To further enhance our understanding, George recommended the practice of recording ourselves—an exercise that proved to be remarkably enlightening. The act of scrutinizing my own movements during filming allowed me to delve into the intricacies of key gestures, and this newfound awareness seamlessly translated into my animation work.
This heightened awareness became particularly evident in the blocking of the ball-with-legs animation. Striving for authenticity and realism, I endeavored to infuse the animation with the subtle yet impactful weight shifts observed during the self-recording exercise. This experience not only enriched my understanding of animation principles but also underscored the importance of keen observation in the creative process.
During this week’s session, our exploration in Unreal delved into the realm of post-processing, an aspect that significantly elevated the visual appeal of our projects. The workshop provided insights into the nuanced art of post-processing, where techniques such as adding bloom and chromatic aberration to the camera were unveiled. Additionally, we delved into the utilization of Lookup Tables to manipulate the colour grading of the scene.
This workshop proved to be particularly enjoyable as it opened up avenues for enhancing the visual aesthetics of our projects. The incorporation of post-processing elements not only added a layer of intrigue but also imparted a distinctive visual quality to the scenes. The newfound knowledge in bloom, chromatic aberration, and color grading using LUT tables has equipped me with valuable tools to infuse further detail and refinement into my environmental scene project.
