WEEK 8
For the 8th week, we had to plan our body mechanic animation, taking some references and making a little bit of planning.
In the critique session led by George, our walks underwent scrutiny, and valuable feedback was provided to refine our animations. The focus for the upcoming week is to transition our animations into the spline stage. George emphasized the significance of meticulous attention to the placement of each foot as it makes contact with the ground.
The critique honed in on specific aspects, particularly the dynamics of the foot, including the peel-off of the heel and the nuanced bend as it delicately connects with the floor. Recognizing the pivotal role these subtleties play in achieving fluidity and visual appeal in animations, I aim to implement these insights in the upcoming submission in the spline stage. This attention to detail promises to elevate the overall quality of the animation, creating a more immersive and realistic walking sequence.
During the Unreal Engine’s session with Serra, we delved into the realm of post-processing. The focus was on setting up a post-processing volume to fine-tune a range of visual parameters. Serra guided us through the adjustment of settings such as contrast, lens flare, bloom, and temperature, offering insight into the creative possibilities unleashed through post-processing.
Additionally, Serra elucidated two rendering approaches. The conventional method involved rendering a basic camera translational motion, albeit with a certain time investment. On the other hand, the game override method offered a faster rendering time, albeit with a reduction in quality. To mitigate this quality trade-off, Serra introduced the manual addition of controllers, allowing us to manually fine-tune post-processing settings and strike a balance between efficiency and visual fidelity. This knowledge empowers us to tailor the post-processing effects to our specific project needs, ensuring a harmonious blend of aesthetics and efficiency in our Unreal Engine endeavors.
